The Big Task
We are seeking an experienced residential HVAC designer to develop heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system designs for residential projects, including new construction, additions, and retrofit/replacement work. This role combines technical calculations, code compliance, and client-facing communication to deliver right-sized, efficient, and comfortable HVAC solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit customer sites to inspect, measure, and assess design needs for upcoming Install work
  • Collaborate with installation technicians, project managers, and sales staff to ensure designs are constructible and align with budget
  • Develop detailed system layouts, including equipment placement, ductwork routing, and refrigerant line sixing
  • Film, review, and upload clear videos of each site visit 
  • Communicate design recommendations to homeowners in clear, non-technical terms 
  • Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, energy codes, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Good working knowledge of boiler piping designs and boiler controls
  • Create clear, accurate stock lists for boilers, mini split systems, HVAC swap outs, and full ductwork installations
  • Attend weekly Install Operations meetings, and Install Tech meetings when applicable
  • Assist in fabrication of sheet metal, as needed
  • Be flexible to the needs of the department
  • Be accountable for actions and job responsibilities

  • Proficiency with a computer, tablet, phone, and the software applications needed to perform the job duties remotely is a must

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Active Massachusetts Electrical or Plumbing Li
  • 3+ years of experience in residential HVAC design, engineering, or a closely related field
  • Working knowledge of residential building codes and energy codes
  • Strong understanding of ductwork design principles and airflow dynamics
  •  Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  •  EPA certification with knowledge of applicable installation and venting codes
  • Sheet metal license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent

The expected base salary range for this position is $65–$85k, based on responsibilities, experience, and other relevant factors. Employees may also be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other variable compensation depending on their position. Total compensation is determined through a structured review considering experience, education, certifications, and licenses.
